Simple Forum

Hi! this is a note on how to install the Simple Forum plugin.

I did this at the same time i installed this forum on the semanal.org site.

Simple Forum from Andy Staines

the home page is at  http://www.stuff.yellowswordfish.com/simple-forum/

There you can check out the features and there is a support forum for the software.

You can download the plugin and documentation:

http://www.stuff.yellowswordfish.com/simple-forum/simple-forum-download/

The documentation is a very good PDF documen, and on page 11 you can read:

New Instalation

Unzip the downloaded package and copy the ‘simple-forum’ folder to your plugins folder as usual. Then open your

plugins administration panel and activate.

Upon activation, assuming all is well, the plugin will create the tables it requires and a series of option values in

the database. It will also create the ‘page’ record that will be the basis for the forum.

It is recommended that the first thing you do is open the forum Options admin page (Manage > Simple Forum –
click on Forum Options) and check that options are set.

Customising the Page (page 12)

title and slug :: this is the page title and the slug (url) used for the forum

content :: Any textual content you add to the page will be displayed above the forum

page template :: As with any wordpress page you can choose a especific page template for the forum

narrow columns :: ...

i am going to install it later on and continue with the documentation of how i did it and how you can do it too. :-)

what i did is:

  1. activate the plugin on the wordpress panel
  2. change the slug on the Manage>SimpleForum>ManageOptions > Forum Page slug : changed from sf-forum to forum
  3. also added more users as moderators and saved option changed
  4. i had to edit the page with id 19 on the wordpress manage>pages to change the slug there also
  5. then i did the update forum permalink
  6. back to the Manage>SimpleForum but now i created a new group called semanal welcome for us to test it

You can also check it out on http://semanal.org/forum/

I think it should be much easier to just let it keep the proposed sf-forum instead of changing it (just an idea).
